How to Create AI Swap Videos

If you've been scrolling through social media lately, you've probably stopped dead at one of those videos where someone walks into frame in one outfit and walks out in something completely different. No cuts you can see, no obvious editing tricks, just a seamless transformation that makes you rewatch it three times trying to figure out how it was done.

Part 1: Filming and Preparation

Step 1: Record your video Film yourself doing a natural movement like a walk toward the camera, a spin, or stepping into frame. Keep the motion smooth, that's what makes the transition feel seamless. Record both the "before" and "after" looks in the same session so the lighting matches.

Step 2: Cut the video in two parts Find the exact moment you want the swap to happen, ideally at a beat drop, a blink, or when you turn away. Split the clip there. You now have Part A (the original look) and Part B (what will become the swapped look).

Step 3: Export the first frame of Part B This single frame is the starting point for the AI. It captures your pose, expression, and the scene, everything the model needs to do the swap realistically.

Pro tip: The cleaner your cut point, the more convincing the result. Aim for a frame where motion is at its peak, mid-spin, mid-step, or a direct-to-camera look. These natural occlusion moments trick the eye perfectly.

Part 2: The AI Magic

Step 4: Head to the AI image editor Go to the image editing tool here and make sure the nano-banana-2 model is selected.

Step 5: Upload both images Add the frame you just exported as image one, and upload the reference photo of the look you want to swap to as image two. This is where you drop in that outfit or alternate look you want to transform into.

Step 6: Write your prompt Keep it simple and specific. Use this exact phrase: "image one but person and outfit of image two"

Step 7: Wait, then go to the video motion tool Once the generated image is ready, head over to motion control. This is where the still image gets turned back into a moving clip.

Step 8: Generate the new video clip Upload your AI-generated image alongside Part B of your video and hit generate. The tool will animate from that image, matching the motion of your original clip and giving you a smooth, swapped continuation.

Part 3: Putting It Together

Step 9: Join the clips together Take the unedited Part A and stitch it directly to the newly generated Part B. Most editing apps like CapCut, Premiere, or DaVinci make this a simple drag and drop. The cut point should feel invisible.

Step 10: Polish and post Add music, color grade, captions, whatever fits your style. The swap does the heavy lifting, the rest is your creative touch. Then post it and watch people lose their minds over the transition.
